PONDOK PESANTREN DAN TANTANGAN MEMERANGI RADIKALISME

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (Pondok Pesantren), known as pondok pesantren, as traditional Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, face serious challenges related to radicalism. The phenomenon of radicalism in the name of religion has become a threat to national stability and social harmony. This research examines the strategic role of pondok pesantren in countering radical ideologies and the efforts made to strengthen religious moderation among students. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, it is found that pesantren have significant potential in curbing the tide of radicalism through the strengthening of a moderate Islamic-based curriculum, the development of a culture of tolerance, and the enhancement of the capacity of ustaz (teachers) in spreading counter-radicalism narratives. However, pesantren also face obstacles such as limited resources and a lack of comprehensive understanding of radicalism. Therefore, synergy between pesantren, the government, and society is needed to optimize the role of pesantren as a defense fortress against radicalism while maintaining the existence of Islam as a blessing for all creation (rahmatan lil 'alamin).
