EUFIMISM IN THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEWSPAPERS TRIBUN JAMBI

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the form and use of euphemisms in the headlines

of the Jambi tribune newspaper. This type of research includes descriptive research. The

data obtained from newspapers, and the source of the data is the main discourse of the

newspaper. The research focus is the form of euphemism and its use. The data collection

technique used is the technique of reading notes. Data analysis used the agih and match

methods. Validity data obtained through intrarater and interrater. Intrarater conducted by

researchers by observing and re-examining the data that has been analyzed. Interrater is

done by discussing the results of the research with expert judgment. The results of the

research-forms of euphemisms are figurative expressiveness, abbreviations, one word to

find you, put other words together, circumcision, metaphor, hyperbole, and collocation.

Judging from the process of forming euphemisms, namely the use of English terms and the

replacement of terms with Indonesian vocabulary.
