INCREASING PROPERLY READING ABILITY WITH THE APPLICATION OF THEMATIC LETTERS CARD GAMES IN CLASS II SD STUDENTS
Abstract
This study examines how much influence the application of thematic letter card games
has on improving reading skills in grade II elementary school children. This research uses
a type of classroom action research where two cycles will be carried out, each cycle
consisting of two meetings. The subjects in this study were all 30 students of class II.
The data source in this study obtained scores from preliminary reading, there were 9
students who had been able to achieve KKM while 21 students had not achieved
completeness of teaching criteria. Data collection techniques were obtained from the
results of observations at each meeting and the administration of written tests. The
research procedure consists of problem identification, problem analysis, preparation of
action plans, implementation of observations, and preparation of a final report. This
research will be carried out in two cycles. In each cycle, two meetings are held which
describe the action, action planning, implementation of observation, analysis and
reflection at the end of each meeting. Based on the data, the reading value of class II
students has experienced an average increase starting from before being given treatment
(Pre-action), cycle I, and cycle 2. The average value before being given treatment using
thematic letter card games is 56.3, after being given treatment learning improvements in
cycle 1 averaged 72.3 and 88.5 in cycle 2 with KKM 70.
